The ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS)
and Performance Standards for Teachers

5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership

Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers:

a. participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.

Since 2006 I have participated in the Midwest Educational Technology Conference, MOREnet conference and the Northern Great Plains Technical Institute. These educational opportunities have served as catalysts for various projects and initiatives both within the Mizzou curriculum and through my company Web 2.0 In the Know.

b. exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others

In 2008 I established a company called Web 2.0 In the Know and have provided presentations and assistance to the area community. In addition, I initiated a wiki for members of a labor union as a tool to exchange organizational knowledge. The wiki has over seventy registered users.

c. evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning

I continue to seek professional development opportunities. These opportunities are discussed in my professional development artifact. I also subscribe to several publications including Tech & Learning, Federal Computer Week, and AVTechnology. I incorporate many of these existing and emerging tools in my presentations at Job Corps and through Web 2.0 In the Know. I am currently writing a proposal to the local public library to provide a presentation about library 2.0 tools. A summary of the library tools was provided to an educator at the University of Missouri.
